WHen the bird flu flies the coup

Welcome to the property management blog, our window into the world of property management.

The health officials keep saying that if this version of avian flu doesn’t develop into a human to human spreading pandemic, the next one might. It reminds me a little of the people who had been saying for years that it would only take a glancing blow from a category 3 or 4 hurricane to break the levees and flood New Orleans. When it did happen, everyone whose job it is to be ready, was asleep at the switch, even though the weather channel was warning of a catastrophic event days before it made land fall.

What can we do to make our properties less likely to aid in the spreading of the next pandemic flu? What can we do to prepare for the impact it will have on our staffing levels and ability to meet our tenants’ demands? The usual flu and cold cycle each winter does a lot to hurt the productivity of all work forces and puts strain on all property management companies. What if the stress was ten fold? What would happen then?

Have you even thought about this? What are your plans?
